ALLSVENSKAN HOCKEY

A far cry from the NHL, this is the hockey team, the Mounties, that my dad played for in the small New Brunswick town of Doaktown where I was born. He's sixteen in this photo, dated 1939 (second from the right standing...looks like he's the shortest on the team). Even after he signed up with the RCAF and went overseas, returning with his bride, he still played hockey and I remember mom lifting me high enough over snow banks and boards, to watch the games. When I was young, I thought these wonderful men were all my uncles and in fact, I saw Uncle Bert (sitting bottom right) at my father's funeral last summer.
My grandmother, Greta Rutledge, helped to sew the uniforms, stitching pieces of wood into the knee pads!

This piece of art sits in the middle of a large field in front of the PepsiCo campus and moves with the wind. It's really pretty neat but difficult (well difficult for me) to capture the motion.
